The Best Japanese in Orange County, CA – Wasabi. Osaka Kappo

If I were to only recommend 2 restaurants in Orange County, CA they would be:

* Wasabi in Tustin. Wasabi serves only Omakase (the word means “putting your trust in the chef”) which means that you don’t get to order anything. You sit, the chef serves you, you tell him that you’ve had enough and then you get up and then pay for the bill. It might scare you but the chef only serves the best fish for the best price. Bar none. One thing to note, Wasabi is located in a strip mall and the place looks very plain but you know what? It’s all about the food and not the environment.
* Osaka Kappo in Tustin. Osaka Kappo specializes in slow food dining that reminds me of eating in Japan (abet the crowded tables and low ceiling). Not only the owners, Ike and Marie the nicest people in the world, they serve the best Udon and Soba. I usually go there when I want a intimate dinner with my very best friends and family. If you’re going there, get a bowl of Udon and the miso eggplant or japanese duck (for you meat lovers).
