EARLY VOTING BEGINS
FOR LOS ANGELES AND ORANGE COUNTY VOTERS

Pasadena, CA - On Wednesday, October 26, 11 Touchscreen voting locations will be available for voters who prefer to vote before Election Day on November 8. The Touchcreen sites are located in North Hills at the Mid-Valley Library; East Los Angeles County Regional Library; Beverly Hills City Hall; Carson County Regional Library; at the Culver City City Hall, in Lancaster at the Fire Training Center; in Pasadena at the Jackie Robinson Center; Redondo Beach Public Library; Monterey Park City Hall; West Covina County Regional Library, and in Norwalk at the County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk’s offices. For address and hours of operation visit www.lavote.net (or see the attached flyer).

The last day to vote early at the Touchscreen machines is Friday, November 4, except for the Norwalk location, which remains open for voting through Election Day. Los Angeles County voters have the convenience of voting at any of the Touchscreen locations. The Touchscreen voting machines provide voting in the following Asian
languages: Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Tagalog and Vietnamese. When voters access the Touchscreen machine, they will see that characters and words are displayed in a large, easy to read size. Step-by-step instructions direct voters on how to vote.

For Orange County voters, early voting has begun, and is available only at the Orange County Registrar of Voters offices, located at 1300 South Grand Avenue, Building C, Santa Ana, California. Orange County uses the
eSlate(tm) electronic voting system, also known as a Direct Record Electronic (DRE) voting system. The eSlate(tm) is also available in multiple Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese languages. Voting is available at the Orange County office Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., except for Election Day, when the office will open until 8 p.m. Note to new citizens: a special voter registration and early voting session will take place this Saturday, October 29, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, visit www.oc.ca.gov/election or call the following phone numbers for Asian language assistance:
-Vietnamese - (714) 567-7585 (Mr. Leslie Le) or (714) 567-7581
-Chinese - (714) 567-5143 (Ms. Delicia Hsu)
-Korean - (714) 567-5141 (Mr. Jay Koo).

Polls open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Los Angeles and Orange County offices on Election Day, November 8. CAUSE reminds voters to check their sample ballots to verify voting hours and locations. In addition, voters may ask pollworkers for any assistance at poll sites. Pollworkers may wear badges that say what language they can speak.

For non-partisan information on how to vote with the Touchscreen machine, where to vote, or to request an absentee ballot application, voters may contact CAUSE’s toll-free voter assistance hotline at (888) 809-3888.

Gourmet Detective: murder mystery dinner theater, live entertainment & corporate events in Orange County.

Hmm… this sounds very interesting. Looks like it’s very highly rated and to be quite honest, I’ve never been to a mystery dinner theater before. Could be an experience to remember.

Thanks to Tracy for sending me the info!

Just came back from BlizzCon 2005 in SoCal

Just came back from BlizzCon 2005 in SoCal. My brother, who works for Blizzard was able to get me tickets to attend the event and I will most likely blog about the event on IBM’s Gaming Blog. Anyhow, it was a blast and had a great time. Got to meet my brother’s coworkers and get to see what he’s working on.

Here are pictures from the event.

Want to talk about something about something besides the
usual “What’s your name?” and “What do you do for a living?”? Join
us for this series of informal chats over coffee (or the beverage of
your choice) in Orange County where you can share your opinions and
experiences and ask anything that’s on your mind in a casual setting.

This month we’re talking about two topics:
1) As an Asian American, how do you strike the balance between your
Asian side and your American side? Is being Americanized blending in
or selling out? Are Asian culture and values trendy or backwards?
Do you assimilate or differentiate?
2) With the November Special Election around the corner, we’ll talk
about the upcoming propositions on the ballot — what do you think
about them?
