Training in Dallas

Today I’m in Dallas. It’s been a while since I’ve been in Dallas. Here for some Tivoli training thrown by one of my teammmates Pattu. During the class, I physically met some of my extended team member which was very, very cool. We always talk on the phone but it’s nice to put a face to a name.

IBM Mexico - Headquarters and Co-workers

IBM Mexico’s HQ is located in a suburb of Mexico City called Santa Fe. Santa Fe is where most of the tech companies are at (EDS, HP) and is very modern. Below are pictures of my team there and also a picture with my team right infront of our building.

Back in Mexico with Luca and Mathews

Soo… after Austin I’m back in Mexico City with the members of my team. Since we only have a few days and Luca and Mathews have not been in Mexico City before, I decided to take them to the city center. We ate at the same place that Timothy took me (Majestic Hotel) and walked around the Catheral and also the old Aztec temple. Took a bunch of pictures and then went home.

Friendster lost steam. Is MySpace just a fad?

Wonder why Friendster and MySpace is a big deal or no deal?

Friendster lost steam. Is MySpace just a fad?
A lot of folks have asked me “What went wrong with Friendster? Why is MySpace any different?” I guess i never directly answered that question, even though i’ve addressed the causes in other talks. Still, i guess it would be helpful to piece some of it together and directly attend to this question.

There is no single answer, but there are a lot of factors that must be considered. To an outsider, Friendster and MySpace seem identical. But they are far from that. They are rooted in different cultural practices and values. People use them differently and they relate to them differently. If you want to understand the differences, you need to understand the history, the decisions that were made, and how these decisions affected practice. Let me address some of the most critical components.

At the IBM Linux Integration Center in Austin, TX

Today I’m in Austin….. took a 7am flight to get here (actually it was delayed until 10:30am). I didn’t get into Austin until 4ish. Nevertheless, I got a chance to take some pictures with the pretty hardware and the pengiun.

Tonight’s dinner @ W Hotel in Mexico City

So where I did I eat tonight? Well.. for this week I’ve been eating in different parts of the city like Pink zone, Historical District and Polanco. Timothy decided to eat at the W Hotel cuz he said I’m gay (grin). So we decided to go eat at their snazzy resturant. Very trendy. Me likes.

Visiting Mexico City’s Z calo and Metropolitan Cathedral

So Timothy decided to take me out to see some of the sites around town. We decied to go the the heart of Mexico City, the Z calo and Metropolitan Cathedral. He took me to a resturant where we can see the entire square (there’s this huge mexico flag in the courtyard… awesome) and just gawk at people. Very cool.

Mexico City.- Downtown area
Megalopolis such as Mexico City are formed by the gradual fusion of several cities and towns. The roots of Mexico’s capital lie in the so-called Historic Center, an area which occupies the original core of the city which the Aztecs set out like a celestial map, aligned according to the four cardinal points. The Spanish then retraced the area in a checker board pattern, and it was subsequently rebuilt as a convent-filled, aristocratic metropolis before eventually transforming into a microcosm of modernity.

Pictures!
