Fully Automated Robo-Restaurant Tested Verdict: Delicious, Fun, No Bloody Tips

Fully Automated Robo-Restaurant Tested Verdict: Delicious, Fun, No Bloody Tips
A BBC News crew went to Germany to try s Baggers, the robotized, fully automated restaurant in which theres not a single waiter in sight and plates float over your head on steel rails to reach your seat, Futurama-style. And apparently, they loved it.

As we already knew, everything in this restaurant in Nuremberg is completely automated, from the ordering process—using a touchscreen which also allows you to surf the web or email while waiting for our order—to the delivery of the food to your color-coded seat. Only the cooking is manual, which is done by some Elzar apprentices, 70% human-30% iron chefs, somewhere in the building.

The creator of the technology behind s Baggers thinks theres a big market for these kinds of restaurant, which are convenient, fun, and save costs to the owners and the clients. The BBC seems to agree. Their verdict: fun, delicious, fast, and no tips. Makes a good case to eradicate that awful, ingrate job of waitressing all throughout the planet. Sad, I know. But dont despair, my friends: theres always blogging.

Cafe Hiro Cypress | Yelp

Japanese and French fusion. Can it work? Yes it can. Went there to Cafe Hiro last month and it wasn’t bad (my way of saying it was good). I had a number of dishes that were European with a Japanese twist. Liked it all. Would go back again.

Find restaurant secrets at Top Secret Recipes - Lifehacker

Find restaurant secrets at Top Secret Recipes - Lifehacker
Want to make a cherry Slurpee in your own kitchen? How about California Pizza Kitchen’s famous BBQ Chicken Pizza? And homemade Cinnabon for dessert? You can find these recipes and hundreds more at Top Secret Recipes.

The site organizes the recipes by brand, starting with Applebee’s and ending with Z’Tejas Southwestern Grill. In between you’ll find not only restaurants, but also individual foods and drinks: AriZona tea, Bisquick, Mrs. Dash and so on. Each recipe includes comments and user ratings, most of which are overwhelmingly positive. The site promises a new recipe each week, and although there’s no RSS feed for easily tracking them, you can subscribe to a once-weekly e-mail newsletter.

I have to say, browsing this site made me feel like a kid in a Mrs. Fields store (yes, her storied cookie recipe is here). However, while some of the recipes are free, most will set you back 79 cents. But if you love to cook (or just want to save money on dining out), that’s a pretty small price to pay. — Rick Broida

Desserts in Sacramento Part 2 - Ciocolat, Ettore - Chowhound

Desserts in Sacramento Part 2 - Ciocolat, Ettore - Chowhound
Ciocolat - I thought the cakes were slightly a bit better than Freeport. Less heavy sugar as you can tell, Im more of a european cake eater than american. Good place to “chill out” in Davis.

Ettore - Id have to say that Ettore is probably the closest european cake place in Sacramento. The cakes are light and theres a little fruity tang in cakes like Princess.

Dessert in Sacramento - Freeport Bakery, Tower Cafe, Leatherby, Gunthers - Chowhound

Dessert in Sacramento - Freeport Bakery, Tower Cafe, Leatherby, Gunthers - Chowhound
Freeport Bakery - Reminds me of typical American Bakeries. Heavy on the sugar. Very dry. Some of the better American cakes that I’ve had. The setup was very “local”. Lemonade was very real. I’d go back again.

Tower Cafe - I actually liked the cakes. It was really down-to-earth home cooked cakes. Liked Freeport feeling a bit better but I wished it had the Tower cakes.

Leatherby - Had the banana split. It was huge. Pretty good value for the money. Ice cream was good.. but not as great as how some ppl say it is.

Gunthers - This was more like an old fashioned ice cream parlor. I thought it was very retro. Was it better than Leatherby… it was different, more… rich. If I had to choose. I’d go to Gunthers over Leatherby.
