UC Irvine Residential Computing
Started with a trip, my friend introduced me to Residential Computing at UC Berkeley. After looking at the program in UC Berkeley, I asked myself if there was a program in UC Irvine that provided technical services to the residents of UC Irvine. At the time, there was no equivalent to Residential Computing at UC Irvine and I decided to take the initiative to create one at UC Irvine.
After selling my idea to the Housing administration, they finally allowed me to form UCI Residential Computing (http://rescomp.uci.edu) in the fall of 1998. Housed in Middle Earth, UCI Residential Computing became a focal point for on-campus student technical services. We started with only had a small office and only 1 paid worker (me) and 20 volunteers who helped with technical support for UCI Housing residents. Today, UCI Residential Computing as grow to over 15 paid student workers, 2 full time professional staff, large office and even a dedicated golf cart to move staff around UCI.
UCI Residential Computing is currently lead by my long time friend, Ted Roberge.
